Mole Removal & Mole Mapping
in Northampton
The Expert Skin Clinic is a leading destination for mole and blemish removal or reduction in Northampton.
We examine every mole or blemish to determine whether it is safe to treat and have recently introduced Map My Mole - a mole mapping service revolutionising the way suspicious moles and blemishes are checked.

What are moles?
Moles are skin growths, caused by pigment cells called melanocytes that grow in clusters on the skin. They come in all shapes and sizes, can be flat or raised and are often black, brown or pink in colour.
Moles can appear anywhere on the body and often develop in childhood or adolescence. Whilst most moles are harmless, it’s important to keep an eye out for new moles that may appear on the body or any changes to existing moles.
This service isn’t just for moles! You can come to us to have any skin blemish or lesion checked. Many skin cancers don’t actually come from moles, and can arise from other blemishes. We can use the same equipment to determine whether it is safe for removal or reduction.

Why choose to remove your mole?
Unless a mole is a cause for concern, it doesn’t need to be treated. However, some people opt for removal or reduction for cosmetic reasons if their mole is quite large or in a very visible place on the body or face.

In most cases, a mole can’t actually be fully removed. Since most moles extend deep into the skin, we can bring them down to the surface, sometimes making them appear almost invisible, but the base will remain intact. Raised moles are generally easier to treat cosmetically, whereas flat moles may be better suited for surgical excision. Blemishes such as skin tags or keratosis can be fully removed as they sit on top of the skin.

If your mole or blemish is suspicious and this has been confirmed via our mole mapping service, it will most likely require a biopsy to determine whether it’s cancerous. If this is the case, we won’t treat it here at The Expert Skin Clinic but we can refer you to a specialist to continue this process.
Types of mole removal/reduction
There are various types of cosmetic mole removal and reduction but the main ones we offer at The Expert Skin Clinic are;
-
Advanced Electrolysis - uses an ultra fine heated probe to cauterise and lift away the mole or blemish.
-
Cryotherapy - uses liquified nitrous oxide to freeze the cells within the mole or blemish to break down and remove it.

Map My Mole - Mole Mapping in Northampton
The Expert Skin Clinic now offers Map My Mole - an accessible mole mapping service in Northampton.
What is Map My Mole?
Map My Mole is a revolutionary service and the first of its kind, partnering with skin clinics across the country to make mole and blemish checks more accessible. It cannot diagnose skin cancer but can flag abnormalities that may need further investigation.
How does Map My Mole work?
It works by taking a detailed photograph of the mole or blemish with a professional-grade Dermatoscope. This is a quick process that can be carried out in your first consultation with us. It will then be sent off to a consultant dermatologist who specialises in skin conditions and skin cancer to be further analysed. They will create a report and send feedback within 48 hours.
What happens next?
If the results from the initial image don’t flag any further abnormalities, we can go ahead and remove or reduce the mole or blemish using one of the above methods at our Northampton clinic. If there is cause for concern and it requires a biopsy, you will then be referred to a specialist who will take over and continue the process and diagnosis.
Traditional referrals for suspicious moles can be expensive with long wait times. This service is revolutionising the way people have their moles and blemishes checked, contributing to earlier detection and prevention of skin cancer. Mole mapping at a skin clinic local to you like The Expert Skin Clinic takes pressure off the NHS whilst providing you with peace of mind.
